Course Overview
The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Adult Nursing at Roehampton University is a three-year undergraduate degree program that prepares students to become registered nurses in the United Kingdom. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, ensuring that students develop the competencies required to provide high-quality care to adult patients in a variety of healthcare settings.
Year 1:
In the first year of the program, students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and infection control. They will also learn about communication skills, ethical and legal issues in nursing, and patient assessment techniques. Clinical skills workshops and simulated patient scenarios will be used to develop practical skills such as taking vital signs, administering medications, and conducting physical examinations.
Year 2:
In the second year, students will build on their foundational knowledge and skills, focusing on the care of adults with acute and long-term health conditions. They will learn about the pathophysiology and management of common conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory illness. They will also develop their understanding of mental health and how it relates to physical health. Clinical placements in hospitals and community settings will allow students to apply their learning in real-life situations, working alongside registered nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Year 3:
The final year of the program will see students consolidate their learning and prepare for registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). They will learn about leadership and management in nursing, research methods, and the importance of continuing professional development. They will also undertake a final placement, where they will work independently under the supervision of a registered nurse, putting their knowledge and skills into practice.
Upon successful completion of the BSc in Adult Nursing at Roehampton University, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the NMC and work as a registered nurse in a range of healthcare settings, including hospitals, community clinics, and patients’ homes. They will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care to adult patients, making a positive difference to people’s lives every day.
