Course Overview

In today’s competitive business landscape, professionals encounter numerous obstacles as the business world continually evolves. A major hurdle they confront involves effectively handling intricate projects that hold significant importance in achieving their organization’s strategic goals.

This program is designed to be in line with the PMI® A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) – Seventh Edition, published by the Project Management Institute, Inc. in 2021. It extensively incorporates fundamental standards and practice frameworks recommended by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

In the initial phase of the Advanced Project Management & Strategic Leadership program, students will develop expertise in both project management and business leadership by actively engaging with distinct project types and business scenarios. They will grasp the origin of projects, how to delineate their scope, and navigate through the project planning process. Students will enhance their proficiency in professional communication by understanding Canadian business practices and communication conventions. Additionally, they will acquire valuable technical and analytical skills through hands-on experiences in a lab setting or using their personal technological devices (laptops or personal computers).

In the subsequent phase of the program, students will advance their comprehension of project management by delving into the dynamics of managing project uncertainty, encompassing risk and procurement. They will also acquire essential soft skills vital for successful leadership. Progressing in their project management journey, students will learn the art of project execution management, diligently monitoring and controlling all project facets during this critical phase. Furthermore, students will begin preparing for cooperative education through a course led by instructors.

The focus of the third phase heavily centers on Agile Methodologies, including Scrum, Waterfall, and more, in addition to emphasizing change and project health management, ensuring proper project closure. Soft skills continue to be honed through a comprehensive course titled “Everything You Need to Know to be a Project Manager.” The core principles imbibed during the initial terms are reinforced through a capstone project simulation course.

In the fourth phase, students engage in cooperative education (co-op), receiving essential tools and mentorship to secure a co-op opportunity. Should a student not meet the eligibility criteria for a co-op, an alternate opportunity exists to enroll and deepen their understanding through the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) program.
