Course Overview
In today’s competitive business landscape, professionals encounter numerous challenges due to the ever-evolving nature of the business world. Managing intricate projects essential for achieving their organization’s strategic objectives stands out as a major challenge.
The program is designed to align with the PMI® A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) – Seventh Edition, Project Management Institute, Inc., 2021, and extensively incorporates fundamental standards and practice frameworks outlined by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
During the initial term of the Advanced Project Management & Strategic Leadership program, students will develop proficiency in project management and business leadership by actively engaging with various types of projects and business scenarios. They will learn about project origination, defining scope, and navigating the project planning process. Students will also enhance their understanding of professional communication by familiarizing themselves with Canadian business practices and communication styles. Additionally, they will acquire valuable technical and analytical skills through hands-on experiences in a lab environment or using their personal technological devices (laptops or personal computers).
In the subsequent term of the program, students will advance their project management expertise by delving into the dynamics of handling project uncertainties, encompassing risk and procurement, and acquiring the soft skills essential for effective leadership. They will continue their project management journey by understanding how to oversee project execution while closely monitoring and controlling all project aspects during this critical phase. This term also initiates co-op preparation through a course led by instructors.
The focus of the third term heavily revolves around Agile Methodologies such as Scrum and Waterfall, along with emphasizing change management and project health. Soft skills are further refined through a comprehensive “Everything You Need to Know to be a Project Manager” course. A capstone project simulation course enhances the core principles learned throughout the preceding two terms.
Finally, in the fourth term, students engage in a co-op experience where they are equipped with essential tools and guidance to secure a co-op opportunity. In cases where a student isn’t eligible for a co-op, an alternative option is available to enroll and expand their knowledge through the WIL program.
