Course Overview
Students are educated in delivering personalized therapeutic recreation services that emphasize client preferences and strengths through the therapeutic recreation process. They develop proficiency in conducting client evaluations and crafting, executing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs for both groups and individuals. The curriculum covers a range of facilitation methods to aid individuals in engaging meaningfully in recreational and leisure activities, aiming to attain health-related objectives, enhance functional capabilities, and elevate overall quality of life.
Upon completing this program, individuals can qualify for membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (R/TRO), and the membership classification will be determined based on their respective postsecondary qualifications:
- R/TRO for those with degrees
- R/TRO DIP for those with diplomas
Furthermore, program graduates have the opportunity to apply for Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation through one of two designated pathways (equivalency paths A or B).
Admission Requirements
- Ontario college diploma, advanced diploma, degree, or equivalent, with a specialty in health or human services.
